ARMENIAN GENOCIDE
The legacy of silence
Discover a 4-episode documentary series on the chronology of the Armenian Genocide in order to remind us of this key moment in History by exploring the genesis, key events, international reactions and the legacy of the genocide in the world and in our Memory.
The Armenian Genocide is one of the darkest and most tragic chapters of the 20th century. Between 1915 and 1916, the Ottoman government orchestrated a brutal campaign to eliminate the Armenian population from its territory, marking the beginning of one of the first genocidal tragedies of the century. This period of terror was characterized by forced deportations, mass executions, gruesome torture, and other unspeakable atrocities. Armenians, as a people, were targeted in a policy of ethnic cleansing aimed at systematically eradicating their presence.
During these years of terror, approximately 1.5 million Armenians were victims of this inhuman brutality. Men, women and children were separated from their homes, forcibly displaced, and faced extreme living conditions, often without access to food, water or medical care. Those who did not perish during the deportations were subjected to ruthless treatment, often with the aim of destroying them physically and psychologically.
However, despite the recognition by many historians and international organizations, the Armenian Genocide remains a controversial topic today and is contested by some countries and governments. This denial adds to the suffering of survivors and descendants, while contributing to maintaining a veil of ignorance over this historical tragedy.
In order to raise awareness and educate about this major event in world history, Memento is offering a four-part series. This series examines not only the events themselves and their timeline, but also their historical context, the international reactions at the time, and the lasting impact of the Armenian Genocide on contemporary society and collective memory.

Missak Manouchian, from the pen to the Red Poster
"With the help of friends who will be willing to honor me, you will have my poems and writings published, which are worth reading. You will bring my memories if possible to my parents in Armenia. I will die with my 23 comrades shortly with the courage and serenity of a man who has a clear conscience, because personally, I have done no harm to anyone and if I have, I have done it without hatred."
From the Armenian Genocide to the Red Poster, Missak Manouchian embodies an emblematic figure who transcends eras and struggles. A committed poet, he was one of those artists who shaped History through their pen, bearing witness to the resilience and struggle of the oppressed. A hero and symbol of communist resistance, Missak Manouchian would have liked to be recognized above all for his literary work. However, each word he put on paper resonates like an echo of his struggles and his tragic destiny. His poems, imbued with the soul of a revolutionary, capture the spirit of his time and the struggle for justice and freedom.
